The Right Luxury Sedan Makes a Grand Statement
While it’s true that crossovers and SUVs are at the height of their popularity, there’s something classic about a proper luxury sedan. Luxury Sedans have always been an interesting mix of civility housing excitement. Whether you’re someone who just wants to head to work in plush richness, or wants to push their sedan on the open road, a nice luxury sedan will do just that. The vehicles that make this list are a great representation of some of the best luxury sedan offerings on the market. They range in price, as well as in size, but all offer a beautiful driving experience. Apologies to some of the vehicles that don’t make the list. Even the “poor” vehicles in this category tend to be pretty great. There’s just some which are a step ahead.
1 - Mercedes S-class
Germany has been one of the prime locations to find ingenious and incredibly luxury sedans for decades. The S-class continues that dominance of tradition. The interior features an incredible attention to detail and styling that is both retro and modern in the most pleasing combination. S-Class sedans start at around $92,250 and can come with either a 3.0 liter V-6 or the more impressive 463 horsepower 4.0 liter V-8. If you really need more power (it’s unlikely), then the AMG badge has offerings even more impressive. If there’s a feature that exists for a vehicle on the planet, it’s likely included in the S-class sedan. This includes all the important automatic safety features, active body control and autonomous-driving possibilities.
2 - Genesis G90
This may perhaps be a surprise inclusion on this list, considering the Genesis Brand is newer and the luxury division of Hyundai, but the G90 is quite the vehicle. The interior cabin is incredibly well styled, comfortable and tasteful. The G90 starts around $70,000, meaning that there’s some serious savings compared to rivals like the S-Class. Both 365 and 420 horsepower engines are available. One of the few options is to choose between rear and all wheel drive. There’s few options because everything conceivably needed is already included! The Midsize G80 is almost just as good as well!
3 - BMW 5-Series
While the first few entrants on this list have been full size sedans, the BMW 5-Series is the first mid level luxury sedan. Why did it make the list instead of the full size 7-Series? Because it’s just better! The 5 series starts around $54,000 and features a wide variety of engines ranging from a 111 hp electric motor up to a 456 hp V8. Essentially, no matter what you need, the 5-Series can provide. It’s true that perhaps the 5-Series isn’t as sport tuned as it used to be, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The increases in luxuriousness in the cabin and the added tech features are more beneficial in about 95% of drives.
4 - Audi A8
Continuing the German dominance of the luxury car brand is the Audi A8. This is the flagship full size sedan and caps Audi’s wonderful sedan line. Prices start around $84,500 and rise from there. Features abound inside, including a foot warmer for rear seat passengers! A 335 hp V-6 provides plenty of power and is standard. An ingenious electrical system assists engines at low speeds and powers features like air conditioning when the engine is off. All wheel drive is standard as per the usual Audi code. Arguably the most interesting new option is the new wireless charging engine. This 449 horsepower plug in hybrid doesn’t actually plug in. It functions entirely through inductive charging.
5 - Volvo S90
Volvo has continually eschewed other automotive trends and has consistently gone their own way. THe S90 is a surprisingly appealing looking vehicle that is naturally full of advanced safety technology. The interior is crips, clean, and looks best in light colors. Volvo has moved away from big inefficient engines and makes use with supercharging combining that with turbocharging their four cylinder offerings. The S90 also has a plug in hybrid model! Prices start around $48,000 for the S90, making it a solid value as well.
6 - Tesla Model S
Tesla may not be the best selling set of vehicles on the market, but they spark the most conversation. The Model S is an incredibly sedan that takes advantage of battery power to be surprisingly drivable! The lower center of gravity means that it corners well. Electric motor acceleration is always impressive and the Model S is no different. Arguably the most ingenious feature is the fact that a sedan can feature a third row of seating. The row faces backwards and is hidden in the cargo area when it’s not needed. Pricing for a Model S starts around $79,000.
